Description
Louisiana has been losing coastal wetlands since at least the 1930s, but the long-term rate of land loss has slowed since its peak in the 1970s, and U.S. Geological Survey scientists have recently found a further slowing since 2010.
One of the most affected areas of Louisiana is Pointe-aux-chenes, an unincorporated community located in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana,United States. In Cajun French, the area is known as Pointe-aux-Chenes. The community shares a zip code with Montegut and has many residents of Chitimacha descent. In 1993, they established the independent Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe, which is one of three state-recognized Houma tribes.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
