Description
Yscloskey is a small Louisiana town of rural St. Bernard Parish known for fishing. The primary commercial boats target oysters, shrimp and crab. This is a quaint little fishing hamlet with charter captains up and down the bayou in Shell Beach, Delacroix or Hopedale. Bayous and channels give them quick access to open bays and the Gulf of Mexico where speckled trout and redfish are abundant.
By the 1900s, Yscloskey, Louisiana and Shell Beach, Louisiana near Lake Borgne were thriving communities. Seafood harvested by these fishermen in the 1800s and 1900s supplied New Orleans restaurants with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of shrimp, fish, crabs, and oysters.
