Description
This is a black & white image of a dead oak tree in the salt marsh south of Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Much of the land loss is associated with the salt water intrusion, thus killing off the oaks and other trees and vegetation that are not salt-tolerant. The debate has been going on for many years regarding the loss of land in South Louisiana. The catalyst are the levees along the Mississippi blocking the much needed replenishment of nutrients and soils that once covered these areas. During the spring floods, the river and all its distributaries would overflow their banks and spread the sediment across the entire delta.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
